KORRUPTION I SKOGSTYRELSEN
Den efterträdande generaldirektören Monika Stridsman rev många av de miljöfrämjande initiativ och utredningar som Göran Enander drivit igenom och försökte flertal gånger mörka rapporter om skogsindustriernas kastastrofala klimatpåverkan.
Men efter att Sossarna 2016 tillsatte Herman Sundqvist, stor skogsägare och öppen förespråkare för kalhyggen, har skogskapitalets kontroll över myndigheten hårdnat. Han har uppgett sig inte vilja publicera material som sätter skogsindustrin i ett negativt ljus. Några utredningar om jäv eller intressekonflikter, som annars är standard hos myndigheter, gäller inte på Skogsstyrelsen.
Under Herman Sundqvists ledning har Skogsstyrelsen numera slutat inventeringen och registreringen av nyckelbiotoper (områden med särskild mängd rödlistade arter och höga naturvärden), vilket lett till att de nyckelbiotoper som ännu inte registreras i Sverige fritt kan avverkas. Är de inte registrerade, så finns de inte i statens ögon.
Sedan Centerpartiet krävde att nyckelbiotopsinventeringen inte skulle återupptas, som punkt 26 av januariavtalet 2019, har detta fortgått. Vendela Engström har i en aktuell artikelserie på tidiningen Arbetaren avslöjat hur nyckelbiotoper numera tillåts avregistreras från skogsägares marker. Sedan det blev möjligt har totalt 212 avregistreringar gjorts, enligt Skogsstyrelsen. 67 av dessa nyckelbiotoper hade registrerats innan 2019, när beslutet att avveckla nyckelbiotopsinventeringen togs.
Skogsstyrelsen har även uppgett att ”målet [om miljöhänsyn i skogsbruket] är uppnått” trots att alla experter är eniga om motsatsen. Detta har lett till att utredningar om förutsättningar för ett hållbart skogsbruk har stoppats. Mängder av tjänstemän har sagt upp sig från Skogsstyrelsen som ett resultat av Herman Sundqvists hårt näringslivslojala linje.

CORRUPTION IN THE FOREST BOARD
The succeeding director-general in the Swedish Forestry Agency, Monika Stridsman, demolished many of the environmental promotion initiatives and investigations that Göran Enander pushed through and tried several times dark reports about the catastrophic climate impact of the forest industries. But after the social democrats appointed Herman Sundqvist in 2016, a large forest owner and open proponent of clear-cutting, forestry capital’s control over the agency hardened.
He has stated that he does not want to publish material that puts the forest industry in a negative light. Any investigations into conflicts of interest, which are otherwise standard with authorities, do not apply to the Forestry Agency.
Under Herman Sundqvist’s leadership, the Norwegian Forestry Agency has now finished the inventory and registration of key biotopes (areas with a special amount of red-listed species and high nature values), which has led to the fact that the key biotopes that are not yet registered in Sweden can be freely logged. If they are not registered, they are not worth protecting in the eyes of the state. Since the Center Party demanded that the key biotope inventory should not be resumed, as point 26 of the January 2019 agreement, this has continued.
In a current series of articles in the Arbetaren newspaper, Vendela Engström has revealed how key biotopes are now allowed to be deregistered from forest owners’ lands. Since it became possible, a total of 212 deregistrations have been made, according to the Norwegian Forestry Agency. 67 of these key biotopes had been registered before 2019, when the decision to phase out the key biotope inventory was made.
The SwedishForestry Agency has also stated that ”the goal [of environmental considerations in forestry] has been achieved” even though all experts agree to the contrary. This has led to investigations into the conditions for sustainable forestry being stopped. Droves of civil servants have resigned from the Forestry Agency as a result of Herman Sundqvist’s fiercely business-oriented line.
